Toddler Activity: Scented Rice Sensory Play

The past few weeks have been crazy because there has been a lot of construction happening around home. There was a giant hole in the courtyard and so they had to completely pull up all the concrete and lay a bunch more cement down. During this time, Ryenne has had to be cooped up inside since it's not exactly toddler-friendly out there.
We had to get creative with stimulating Ryenne indoors and getting that toddler energy out! Yesterday I remembered that we had some rice and so I dumped a bag in one of our clear plastic bins, added a few little toys/knick knacks, and threw in a few drops of Citrus essential oils just for the added stimulation! Ryenne LOVED it. She was so curious about what I was doing as I dumped the rice in and put some of her favorite toys inside. I laid down a sheet (all we had was a fitted sheet, which wasn't ideal but it still worked) and let her explore! It was so cute to see her face light up with a new kind of play. She did REALLY great with keeping the rice inside, and honestly it wasn't even that big of a deal if it ended up on the floor because we have laminate flooring and that made cleaning up super easy.
I think that this activity has so many endless possibilities! I am already thinking of changing things up by dyeing the rice a couple different colors, or replacing the toys with her letter magnets for her to investigate, or maybe even buying some little animals or little people that can go in the rice for some imaginary play!
Enjoy the pics!
MAMA FINALLY LETS HER GET IN ON THE FUN

I ENDED UP TAKING MOST OF THE TOYS OUT. IT WAS BETTER WITH JUST A FEW.

IT'S PRETTY COMMON TO HAVE MARKER ALL OVER HER FACE AND HANDS THESE DAYS. SHE IS SO INTO COLORING.
